Freelance Controls Systems Engineer - 1 year contract - Hybrid (Utrecht)
Grid capacity and resilience programme | MV/HV network

We're working with a leading Dutch grid operator on a critical infrastructure programme addressing network capacity constraints across the region. This is hands on SCADA engineering work supporting substation monitoring and control as part of a wider grid expansion effort.
What you'll do
Design and configure SCADA systems for substation monitoring and control
Specify and implement RTU/IED communication using IEC 61850, Modbus and DNP3
Support commissioning and testing of control and protection systems
Work alongside network planning and protection engineering teams
Troubleshoot SCADA/HMI issues across the live operational network
What you'll need
Proven SCADA engineering experience within utilities or grid infrastructure
Hands on knowledge of IEC 61850, Modbus and DNP3 protocols
Experience with platforms such as Siemens Spectrum Power, ABB Network Manager or similar
Dutch or English fluency | EU right to work
Nice to have:
exposure to OT security or network segmentation within substation environments.
