Data Scientist

HORAIZON Technology BV is a biomedical AI company that turns complex biological data into practical insights. Our platforms support near real-time analysis and decision support across the microbiome and a growing range of other omics modalities. We combine modern machine learning with scalable pipelines and clear visualisation to help our customers move from measurement to action faster.

The role

We are growing and looking for a Data Scientist who enjoys building and improving things from end to end. You will take ownership of development projects and data analysis, help shape new capabilities, and work in a small team where your contribution makes a visible difference.

We are looking for someone who communicates clearly, actively works with colleagues and takes initiative. You should feel comfortable bringing ideas forward, asking questions, sharing progress and helping others solve problems.

The data we work with is unusually varied: signals and sound, images and video, free text, and molecular data spanning genetics, epigenetics, the microbiome, proteomics and metabolomics. Each brings different challenges, and part of your role will be choosing methods that fit the problem. Clear visualisation and explanation of results are central to the work.

What you will do

Work closely with colleagues to turn scientific and customer needs into practical solutions

Build and improve data pipelines and analytics workflows

Automate processing steps and improve their performance and reliability

Develop backend services and REST APIs, integrating data from different systems

Work with databases and contribute to internal and client-facing web applications

Develop and evaluate machine learning models across varied data types

Visualise results and explain findings clearly to technical and non-technical audiences

Proactively identify improvements, propose solutions and follow through on delivery

Must have

Initiative and ownership:

you spot what needs doing, propose practical solutions and follow through without waiting for detailed instructions

Strong interest in biology and/or healthcare

Experience with Python and backend development, such as Django and REST APIs

Experience with AI and machine learning tools, such as PyTorch or scikit-learn

A degree in a quantitative discipline, such as Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, AI or a related field

Big plus but not required

Deep learning experience with sound, images or video

Bioinformatics or omics data analysis experience

Experience deploying models or data pipelines into production
